A Brief Overview of Cosmetic Body Contouring
In plastic surgery, the term “body contouring” encompasses a full gamut of treatments and procedures (both surgical and non-surgical) designed to help you restore a slimmer, more youthful-looking figure following substantial weight gain and/or loss. At my practice, Aesthetic Plastic Surgical Institute, body contouring procedures make up a great percentage of the total number of surgeries I perform each year, particularly for women who are done having children and wish to address the effects pregnancy had on their bodies.
Some of the most common body contouring procedures I perform include:
- Liposuction – Used to remove targeted fat buildups
- CoolSculpting® – Used to non-surgically freeze and remove targeted fat, and tighten some loose, excess skin
- Tummy Tuck – Used to remove skin and fat around the midsection (particularly lower abdomen), as well as tighten some of the abdominal muscles
- Brachioplasty – Used to remove and tighten some of the extra, loose skin in the arms
- Thigh Lift – Used to lift and tighten skin of the lateral thighs and lower buttocks
- Vaser® Shape – Used to non-surgically make skin firmer and reduce signs of cellulite via ultrasound and massage therapy
Overall, results achieved from most body contouring procedures will be long-lasting, and often permanent, as long as you stay relatively close to the same weight at which you were going into your procedure. Getting pregnant or gaining a substantial amount of weight after your procedure will once again stretch out skin and muscle tissues, which may require you to have the procedure redone.
