Frequently Asked Questions about Cellfina™
The Cellfina™ System is a minimally invasive, FDA-cleared procedure designed to treat cellulite on the buttocks, thighs, and various other regions of the body. As one of the few practices in the country to offer this innovative new treatment, our board-certified plastic surgeon, Dr. Dan Mills, has answered some frequently asked questions about Cellfina™ below to help you learn more.
How does Cellfina™ work?
Cellfina™ is performed in-office using a small, needle-sized device that applies soft, quick pressure onto connective fibers that are responsible for cellulite on the surface of the skin. By applying this pressure repeatedly throughout the treatment session, the targeted bands will begin to wear down and eventually release, enabling the overlying skin to smooth back out over the course of about three days. For most patients, only a single treatment is needed to achieve optimal outcomes.
How long does the treatment take?
Depending on the number of areas being addressed, the Cellfina™ treatment typically takes about 45 minutes to complete, though this will vary by individual.
Does the treatment hurt?
The majority of patients describe any potential discomfort experienced during and/or after treatment as mild.
Is there any downtime and/or recovery?
Some minor bruising and/or soreness may occur in the targeted treatment areas, but these side effects often dissipate relatively quickly. In clinical studies, more than 90% of patients had no signs of bruising four weeks after the procedure. Many individuals are able to return to normal activities the same day, though this will vary on a case by case basis.
How quickly do results appear, and how long do they last?
A significant improvement in the appearance of cellulite can often be seen within three days post-treatment. Final results have been known to last at least twelve months for most patients, which is the longest FDA clearance for the treatment of cellulite.
