Questions to Ask Your Body Lift Surgeon
If you are considering a body lift to eliminate loose, excess skin after major weight loss, finding the right plastic surgeon is critical to achieving an optimal outcome. Below, we’ve listed several questions you should ask your prospective surgeon to determine whether he or she is the right fit for you prior to moving forward with body lift surgery.
- Are you certified by the American Board of Plastic Surgery (ABPS)?
- Did you receive training in plastic surgery specifically, and how many years did you train?
- How often do you perform body lift procedures?
- What treatments do you recommend for me?
- Is there anything I need to do to prepare for surgery?
- How will my procedure be performed? Also, will it be performed at once or in separate stages?
- Where will my body lift be performed?
- What will recovery be like, and how much will I depend on the help of others during this time?
- What kind of post-operative care do you provide?
- Are there any risks and/or complications associated with the treatments recommended for me?
- In the event a complication occurs, how will it be handled?
- May I see before-and-after photos of previous body lift patients you treated?
While this is by no means a comprehensive list of questions, the answers your doctor provides to these inquires can help give you a good idea as to whether or not you are comfortable moving forward with treatment from him or her. If additional questions come to mind at the time of your consultation, never hesitate to speak up. Your plastic surgeon should be entirely forthcoming, and if you feel uneasy about any information provided, be sure to express your concern and talk about the issue until you are comfortable, or simply explore other doctors until you find the best fit.
