When Should I Consider Facial Rejuvenation Surgery?
Contrary to what many believe, the right time to consider a cosmetic facial procedure is really when you first start to notice signs of aging, not when particular indications have been present for a while. When you begin to see jowling, loose skin on the neck, forehead lines, wrinkles, or whatever your specific concern may be – that’s when you should contemplate a facelift, eyelid surgery, or the procedure that will be most beneficial for your needs.
The main reason I give this advice to my patients has to do with skin elasticity, which is the skin’s ability to return to normal once it has been pulled or stretched. Over time, skin on the face and neck (as well as all over the body) begins to lose its elasticity due to the body’s natural aging process. As a result, those who are in their sixties will not typically have as good skin elasticity as those who are in their thirties or forties, meaning their skin will often have a harder time returning to and/or maintaining a firmer, more youthful position after surgery. Therefore, the younger you are when you receive facial rejuvenation surgery, the better your elasticity should be, and the longer your results will generally last. Additionally, the longer you wait while signs of aging are apparent, the more those particular indications become part of your persona, and the more evident it will be to yourself and to others when they are addressed.
