Plastic Surgeon in Orange County Offers Innovative Liposuction Alternative

Coolsculpting by ZELTIQ™ uses a patented method known as Cryolipolysis™, which causes fat cells to crystalize and break apart, leaving the surrounding cells unharmed.
Dr. Mills says he uses the noninvasive applicator to gently draw the targeted area of skin between cooling panels that essentially freeze the fat. He adds that the procedure is designed to address stubborn pockets of fat that are resistant to diet and exercise alone, such as the love handles, abdomen, hips, and thighs. Over a period of weeks following the procedure, the fat cells are metabolized by the body and eventually eliminated by the body’s natural methods for cleansing.
Because the ZELTIQ™ procedure is nonsurgical, Dr. Mills says there is no downtime or anesthesia required. Depending on the area being treated, the procedure takes approximately one to two hours, with full results appearing in roughly two to three months as the body continues to remove the damaged fat cells. However, Dr. Mills stresses that this new tool is not a substitute for traditional and ultrasonic liposuction, which is still the most effective way to remove larger areas of fat deposits. “Coolsculpting is a great alternative for those who cannot afford the downtime of surgery, or who wish to just have more subtle sculpting than liposuction would afford.”
