Post-Summer Skin Damage: Cassandra’s Step-By-Step Guide to Cleanse & Renew

This is the first entry in a new, ongoing blog series by Cassandra, a Master Aesthetician here at Aesthetic Plastic Surgical Institute.

Hello Everyone,

I’m so excited to welcome you to the first installment of my skin care blog. My name is Cassandra and I am a master aesthetician and your skin care specialist. Every month I will write about important topics relating to taking the best care of your skin and introduce the newest and greatest treatments for promoting great skin and anti-aging.

Since this is my first message to all of you, let me begin by sharing a little bit about myself. I have been a medically trained Aesthetician for over 20 years and I love my job. I am born and raised in South Orange County, California and I currently live in the Newport Beach area with my four Chihuahuas. Needless to say, they keep me busy.

So, for the first topic of discussion, let’s dive in to post-summer damage. I know that the sun, different climates, air travel, and just a busy lifestyle has wreaked havoc on your skin, so it’s time to start back to basics. The first thing being: the essentials of proper cleansing and nourishment. I can’t express enough how important and necessary it is to take the time to cleanse properly, especially at night and after exercise.

Here is a sure-fire way to ensure that you are cleansing your face properly and preparing for what’s next in line in your product regimen:

Step 1: Pre-Cleanse
Apply a small amount of the appropriate cleanser and use your fingertips to gently massage the skin to loosen all makeup and debris. Remove the cleanser with a warm wet washcloth, rubbing gently as to remove the cleanser and the dirt and oil buildup.

Step 2: Cleanse to Prepare
Again, apply a small amount of the appropriate cleanser using your fingertips to gently massage the cleanser into your skin; a facial brush can be used, as well. Remove the cleanser with a warm wet washcloth. We are now ready to go onto the next step.

Step 3: Tone
A good facial toner is an essential product that everyone can use. It removes residue, helps to restore the pH balance of the skin, removes any excess oil, and helps minimize and prevent acne breakouts. Again, toner can be used on all skin types.

Step 4: Application of Power Products
This is the point at which you start to apply your “power products.” Whatever is prescribed for you: such as vitamin C, a product for rosacea, one for large pores, or a retinol product meant to be used at night. There are so many depending or your skin care goals. ZO® Obagi and Alastin® are my proven go-to products. This is where the consultation comes in. I will assess your skin and put you on the perfect regimen to get your skin looking its best.

Step 5: Moisturize

The last and final step is to nourish the skin. If you are mature with dehydrated skin or young with acneic skin, it is necessary to hydrate. Not to be forgotten, the eyes, neck and décolleté. All of these products are available to you at our office and, if you live out of state, I would be happy to do an assessment or facetime over the phone and ship your products.

So that’s it for my introductory blog. I thank you for reading and I hope you gained some knowledge and will continue to read. There is so much to share and, over time, I will be discussing many topics of interest. If there is something specific you would like to write to me about, please do so at [email protected], or call me at the office: (949) 499-2800. I would love to hear from you.

Keep in mind that this is the BEST time to do lasers, deep peels and retinols to have flawless skin for the holidays!

My best,

Cassandra
